Danish Footon bed:
I saw a need for a bed that incorporates a bedside table and bed frame in the one, that is also portable. Thus I designed a Footon style bed that has a frame in the centre. This made the main platform sit 150mm above the ground, thus providing ground clearance for the mattress, (which is important for air flow and to stop sagging). To make it have space to rest stuff on the side I left a 200mm perimeter around 3 edges of the mattress. Portability was met by constructing the frame so that it has hinges on the bottom, thus the bed folds up in the centre to allow easier transportation. To finish of the aesthetic of the bed, the raw pine wood was sanded to provide a smooth finish and rounded edges like that of danish furniture, and then oiled in danish oil to seal it and cause the final aesthetic. The final Outcome as shown above, was a stylish and practical bed meeting both form and function.
